For of Tour of the Week on May 17, after a seemingly-endless winter, spring seemed finally here and settled into Boston with the kind of impossibly gorgeous day everyone has dreamed about since October! To celebrate, Aragosta opened its patio (last used in the fall for guests to roast marshmallows tableside) to City Wine Tours!
The wind blowing off the harbor was strong enough to rattle the glasses, but once they were filled with amazing Prosecco and Vernacchias wine, the glasses were stable and everyone relaxed and settled into the afternoon. On the tour was a repeat guest–not just of CWT, but of a previous North End tour. She had so much fun she wanted her mother visiting from Des Moines to enjoy it too.
After delicious flatbread, grilled artichokes and other finger foods paired with a Tuscan blend and a Chianti Classico at Artu, it was off to Wine Bottega, where guests encountered two of Italy’s unknown indigenous grapes, fizzy Pagadebit (a white which farmers grow literally to pay their debts or bills) and Perricone, in a winning Sicilian blend that’s been a hit at more than one local wedding. Kerri and Ryan took great care of us and led a spirited debate on the many merits of small production boxed wine. If Wine Bottega’s status as a true wine lover’s destination was in doubt, witness the private tasting that began downstairs just as our tour was wrapping up. In the North End this weekend, the sidewalks were full and the spirits ran high–and City Wine Tours is certainly looking forward to more afternoons on the Aragosta patio! If you missed our Tour of the Week on May 17, join one next weekend!
